Visa delays affecting touring personnel force concert cancellation, disrupt exhibition plans
Taemin's concert in Seattle later this month has been canceled due to US visa delays affecting key touring and production personnel, prompting organizers to postpone a Korean cultural and consumer goods exhibition featuring 31 Korean brands.
The K-pop singer was scheduled to headline the finale concert of K-Era Fest at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington, Oct. 25. The performance was separate from his world tour, which had already seen six US stops postponed last month over similar visa issues.
His agency, Galaxy Corp., attributed the cancellation to "ongoing uncertainty surrounding US visa and related administrative processes affecting key touring and production personnel" in a statement to The Korea Herald on Wednesday.
Unlike major K-pop agencies that oversee both artist management and production, Galaxy Corp. primarily handles artist management for performers such as G-Dragon and Taemin. Other aspects of their activities, such as concert production and styling, are handled by separate teams.
The cancellation also affected K-Era Fest's exhibition and sales event, scheduled for Oct. 24-25 at the nearby Bell Harbor International Conference Center. Organizers have postponed the exhibition until spring 2027.
The exhibition was designed to introduce Korean products to American consumers by attracting some 20,000 K-pop fans expected to visit Seattle for Taemin's performance, with concert ticket holders offered free admission.
Participating Korean brands included cosmetics company Jung Saem Mool, food producer Nongshim and beverage maker Jinro, alongside three Seattle-based businesses, with plans to showcase and sell more than 100 products.
"Without the concert we could not deliver the visitor numbers and the selling environment our brands were promised, and we would rather move the date than put 30-plus companies in front of a thinner room than they signed up for," K-Era Fest organizers said in a statement on the event's official website.
Concert ticket holders will receive full refunds, while those who purchased admission to K-Era Fest can request refunds or retain their tickets for the rescheduled event.
Some invitation-only programs will proceed as scheduled, including a Korean National Day gala on Oct. 22, a VIP event on Oct. 23 and business-to-business programs on Oct. 23-24.
