A woman in her 20s died after collapsing just short of the finish line at the 2026 Seoul Race half-marathon on Sunday, event organizers said Monday.
The runner collapsed at 8:49 a.m. near the 20.6-kilometer mark, about 500 meters from the finish line, according to the organizing committee. She received CPR at the scene but did not regain consciousness before being transported to a nearby hospital, where she later died.
In a statement posted on its website Monday, the committee offered condolences to the woman's family and fellow participants.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved family as they cope with this sudden loss,” the statement said.
The cause of death remains under investigation.
The committee pledged to review the circumstances surrounding the incident and take any necessary follow-up measures.
